The StFX English Department combines cutting-edge research with outstanding teaching to provide students with programs that highlight both the historical richness and modern relevance of an English degree. Through literature spanning various eras, styles, and formats, students enhance their communication, research, and writing abilities.
The department offers diverse courses exploring multiple national literatures and historical contexts, giving students in-depth insights into the evolving nature of literature, art, and culture. This fosters critical thinking, writing proficiency, research skills, and active engagement in our complex intellectual and social landscape.
Faculty members provide personalized mentorship, knowing students individually and supporting their growth. Beyond the classroom, students can participate in enriching activities like literary conferences, contributing to The Antigonish Review journal, attending guest scholar readings, and other events.
The English Honours program with a subsidiary subject follows the same 48-credit structure as the standard English Honours track.

Students who complete the International Baccalaureate IB Diplomawith a minimum score of 24 will be considered for admission.
Minimum grade requirement for any subject is 3.
Students can submit predicted or anticipated results for early fall admission and scholarship purposes.
For high school students the minimum admission requirements include an overall average of 70 percent in Grade 12 with no grade below 65 percent in each of the required subjects Admissions to limited enrolment programs is competitive meeting the minimum average does not guarantee admission.
Please note students who are currently in grade 12 applying for early admissionmust have the program requirements in grade 11 and be registered in the program prerequisites in grade 12 to be eligible for an early offer Otherwise offers will be made after receipt of final first term grade 12 transcript.
