The Psychology Department provides two advanced degree options: MA and PhD programs. Our primary focus is on doctoral studies, and we generally advise against applications from those pursuing solely a master's degree. In exceptional cases, applicants holding a prior master's degree (specifically an MA with a defended psychology thesis) may qualify for direct PhD admission, though most begin in our MA program due to SFU's specialized psychology course requirements.
Applicants with Bachelor's degrees should apply to the MA program. Successful candidates typically possess either a Psychology Honours degree or a Psychology Major with substantial research background, along with outstanding achievement in psychological methods and statistics coursework.
