The visual analytics (VA) graduate certificate is a cross-disciplinary program that blends technology and theory courses with practical applications from various schools, including Interactive Arts and Technology, Computing Science, Business, Education, and Communication, Art and Technology.

This VA graduate certificate program merges four core components: cognition, technology, social impact, and practical integration. Students demonstrate integration by undertaking a major research project employing visual analytics techniques, often their thesis or another substantial academic endeavor. While this project is overseen by the student's home department rather than being part of the certificate requirements, the VA program supports integration by enabling SIAT Graduate Program Committee members to join supervisory committees and through its Visual Analytics seminar series.
