Whether you're working toward a French degree or simply enrolling in select courses, the Department of French provides diverse opportunities. Cutting-edge teaching methods like interactive language sessions, digital coursework, and multimedia platforms can elevate your French to professional standards. Program admission requires successful completion of FREN 210 (or equivalent) with a minimum C grade.
At Simon Fraser University, the French Department focuses on helping students achieve near-native fluency while building expertise in French and Francophone literature, culture, and linguistics. This prepares graduates to engage meaningfully in Canadian (both national and provincial) contexts and throughout the French-speaking world. Our curriculum not only enhances communication abilities but also fosters deep appreciation for the rich cultural and linguistic variety within Francophone communities.
