Our thorough Rural Pre-Medicine Program combines rigorous academics with mentorship and community engagement initiatives, offering comprehensive support for applications to various medical fields including dentistry, veterinary medicine, public health, and biomedical research. Throughout the program, students cultivate essential skills in leadership, adaptability, teamwork, and communication as they advance toward careers in rural healthcare.
Selkirk College's Admission Requirements:
Have graduated from a BC Senior Secondary School or equivalent, or
Be 19 years of age or over at the time of application, or
Be under 19 years of age but have a written recommendation from your Secondary School Principal
Rural Pre Medicine Academic Prerequisites
Applicants may apply while they are completing prerequisite courses. However, applicants must have graduated from secondary school (or equivalent) and completed the following courses from the BC Provincial Curriculum (or their equivalents) before starting the program:
English 12 or English 12 First Peoples or IELTS 6.5
Principles of Mathematics 12 or Pre-calculus 12
Two other approved Grade 12 courses, one of which must be: Biology 12, Chemistry 12, Geography 12, Geology 12, or Physics 12
Biology 12 and Chemistry 12 are strongly recommended
Chemistry 11
Physics 11 (minimum 60%)
Submission of a TOEFL score of IBT 80 or better; or
Submission of an IELTS score of 6.0 with no individual band less than 5.5 or better; or
Submission of an acceptable score on the Language Proficiency Index score of 4 or better.
