The insurance industry plays a major role in Canada's economy. Individuals, companies, and institutions depend on insurance experts to mitigate risks and safeguard assets. With over 25% of current professionals nearing retirement, this presents an excellent opportunity to enter the insurance field.
Frontline roles like insurance brokers, appraisers, claims investigators, and marketing representatives interact directly with clients, while adjusters, underwriters, risk analysts, and actuaries handle the financial aspects behind the scenes.
Insurance Institute of Canada
Saskatchewan Polytechnic stands among just nine Canadian institutions offering specialized insurance education, and remains the sole provider in Saskatchewan. This program was developed in collaboration with provincial insurance leaders and the Insurance Institute of Canada.
The second-year curriculum covers essential topics including liability coverage, broker/agent techniques, property insurance, claims adjustment, sales strategies, commercial law, and risk assessment.
Upon completion, graduates will have completed half of the Insurance Institute's required exams for the Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP) certification. The diploma also provides advanced standing for business degrees at several universities, including the University of Regina, Royal Roads University, and Athabasca University's online programs. Additionally, graduates may qualify for credit transfers toward management and logistics certifications from national professional institutes.
Job opportunities outnumber qualified graduates in this specialty. Demand exists province-wide for roles such as agency brokers, independent agents, claims specialists, or underwriting professionals in both public and private sector organizations.
