The Irish Studies program offers an interdisciplinary exploration of Ireland and its people, concentrating on language, history, and cultural traditions. The island serves as a distinctive model for examining colonialism, post-colonial development, and the evolution of neoliberal governance. Those drawn to topics like racial dynamics, gender studies, social stratification, global migration, and national identity can participate in study abroad programs to learn Gaelic and attend courses at partner institutions in Ireland. We aim to foster cross-cultural understanding, linguistic competence, and awareness of cultural differences while maintaining rigorous academic standards.
This distinctive, multidisciplinary curriculum develops essential research abilities, social skills, and effective communication techniques. Learning another language and immersing in different cultural perspectives also strengthens intercultural awareness. The program provides multiple scholarship opportunities, such as the Allister and Josephine Cannon Scholarship and the Ireland Canada University Foundation (ICUF) Gaeltacht Scholarships.
