Looking to make an impact on future generations? Teaching offers a fulfilling career path for those passionate about education and working with young people. Following their first year, students can specialize in early childhood (K-4), middle school (5-9), or high school (10-12) education to earn their four-year degree. Transfer pathways are also offered. Shape young minds through a meaningful career in teaching. This four-year Bachelor of Education program emphasizes relationship-building, social awareness, inclusive practices, core knowledge, and applying theory to real-world situations - all essential for developing teaching competencies in Alberta.
After completing first-year requirements, students join specialized cohorts in Early Childhood (K-4), Middle School (5-9), or Secondary (10-12) Education. All participants select one of 11 minor concentrations, while Secondary students additionally choose from five major teaching subject areas.
Throughout the program, learners participate in hands-on activities, craft presentations, design practical teaching resources, and collaborate with fellow students. Graduates will enter the education field prepared to create engaging, fair, and relevant learning experiences tailored to student needs.
The program includes annual field placements in diverse school environments, culminating in a full-term teaching practicum during the final year. These observational and practical experiences help students translate educational theory into effective classroom practice, developing essential modern teaching skills.
Admission requirements for specific programs will often refer to Alberta Grade 12 course groups. If you completed your studies outside of Alberta, please visit our International Course Equivalencies webpage for equivalencies from a variety of countries around the world.
