The Department of Mathematics and Statistics boasts a distinguished faculty of internationally renowned researchers specializing in diverse mathematical disciplines. Their expertise spans pure mathematics (covering algebra, algebraic geometry, analysis, dynamical systems, number theory, and probability), mathematical physics, engineering applications (including control theory and information/communication theory), mathematical biology, along with both theoretical and applied statistics. This vibrant academic community is strengthened by an engaged cohort of graduate students from Canada and around the world. The department fosters robust interdisciplinary connections, particularly between mathematics and engineering faculty, with strong collaborations in communications and control theory. Additional partnerships focus on biostatistics through joint appointments with the Faculty of Health Sciences' Clinical Trials Group. The research landscape benefits further from close ties to Kingston's Royal Military College.
