For more than 170 years, Queen's Department of Classics has maintained an unbroken tradition of teaching Greek and Latin. Our scholars' expertise spans classical archaeology, ancient history, philology, and scientific thought, creating rich academic possibilities. The graduate program deepens your engagement with antiquity while offering international fieldwork at archaeological sites. As a close-knit department, we prioritize mentorship, active seminar participation, and conference presentations. Normally a 4-year bachelor degree in Classics (or equivalent, e.g. History) with first-class or high second-class (B+) standing
Applicants to our Greek and Roman Literature, History and Archaeology field should have a good knowledge of Greek and Latin. Applicants who need to supplement their experience in the languages may be accepted on a preparatory basis and arrangements made for supplementary language courses.
Test Requirements
For international students, if required, a TOEFL total score of at least 550 (paper-based) or TOEFL iBT minimum scores of: writing (24/30); speaking (22/30); reading (22/30); listening (20/30), for a total of 88/120, MELAB: 80 (minimum overall score); IELTS: 7 (minimum score, academic module); PTE Academic: 65 (minimum overall score). Applicants must have the minimum score in each test as well as the minimum overall score.
