The Department of Public Health Sciences has expanded its PhD program to encompass all research specialties represented by our faculty, including epidemiology, biostatistics, qualitative and community-based methodologies, health services utilization, program assessment, clinical epidemiology, health equity, global health, Indigenous health, and health economics, among others.
Our programs prioritize strong faculty-student relationships and a student-centered approach. Through rigorous coursework, thesis projects, and active participation in departmental activities, students gain comprehensive expertise in public health research. Graduates emerge prepared to work as independent researchers in academic institutions, health research organizations, or government agencies, or to assume leadership roles in public health within governmental or private sectors.
This year, the PhD program in Public Health Sciences at Queen’s University offers several promising openings for qualified candidates. Several faculty members have indicated their availability to mentor new doctoral students.
Students must have Master’s degree in epidemiology or a related discipline, First-class academic standing (80%), Demonstrated research competency, usually through a research-based thesis.

TOEFL - Test of English as a Foreign Language
Computer-Based Test: A minimum score of 250 and a minimum Essay Rating score of 5.0
Paper-Based Test: A minimum score of 600 and a Test of Written English (TWE) with a minimum score of 5.0
Internet-based test: A minimum score of 100 and a minimum score of 4 for writing
IELTS - English for International Opportunity - A minimum score of 7
MELAB - Michigan English Language Assessment Battery - A minimum score of 90
PTE - Pearson Test of English Academic - A minimum score of 70
