The doctoral program mandates that candidates successfully complete a comprehensive qualifying exam in geological sciences. Students can pursue their PhD through either the Engineering Council or Science Council. The Engineering track includes four term-length courses along with a thesis, while the Science track focuses solely on thesis work, as the Science Council doesn't mandate specific coursework—though supervisors or examination committees may require certain foundational courses to support thesis research.

Our Department of Geological Sciences and Geological Engineering offers advanced study and research opportunities in Earth Sciences. Faculty expertise covers geology, geochemistry, and geoengineering, frequently through interdisciplinary approaches addressing economic and environmental challenges.
