Studies in hydrotechnical engineering take place at multiple facilities: the 2000 sq.m. Coastal Engineering Laboratory on the West Campus, the 600 sq.m. Hydraulics Laboratories in Ellis Hall on the main campus, and the Cataraqui Stormwater Pond in former Kingston Township. These sites support work in coastal engineering, hydrology, natural waterway design, sediment movement, and pipeline flows of solid-liquid mixtures. Collaborative research involves faculty from other civil engineering specialties (environmental, geotechnical, and structural), other Queen's departments (Biology, Chemistry, and Mathematics & Statistics), and external research organizations (National Water Research Institute and National Research Council).
