The Department of Geography and Planning combines the study of locations, communities, ecosystems, and terrains across our planet. This interdisciplinary department uniquely connects the humanities and social sciences (including human geography) with urban planning and physical geography. Our approach examines social and natural phenomena through the lens of specific locations and regions - highlighting the diverse cultures, governance structures, economic systems, topographies, and ecosystems worldwide, along with their interconnections. Physical geography focuses on Earth's natural systems, their interactions, and environmental challenges from both natural and anthropogenic sources. Within social sciences, we investigate societal issues, particularly the unequal allocation of resources and services from neighborhood to worldwide scales. Humanities research examines how people have historically shaped and continue to transform their living spaces (physical, social, and conceptual). Queen's Geography and Planning boasts world-renowned scholars committed to fostering cutting-edge research, innovative teaching methods, and a welcoming, collaborative atmosphere for both students and faculty members.
