The four-year Biotechnology (BTEC) program is a specialized Subject of Specialization Plan (SSP) that delves into this dynamic and fast-evolving field of applied science. The curriculum blends theoretical knowledge with hands-on learning across various biological scales—from microorganisms to entire ecosystems—highlighting the diverse life forms that can enhance agriculture, healthcare, and environmental sustainability. To achieve this, the BTEC SSP collaborates with other Queen's University departments like Chemical Engineering, leveraging interdisciplinary expertise.
Our goal is to cultivate graduates who are motivated, self-reliant, analytical, and capable of making meaningful societal contributions. The Biology Department emphasizes seamless integration across all biological disciplines, ensuring our research and teaching reflect a holistic grasp of biological systems—from molecular interactions to ecosystem dynamics. The undergraduate Biology program delivers a rigorous, well-rounded education designed to instill a lifelong dedication to applying biological concepts. Ultimately, we aim to teach students to "think like scientists"—using evidence-based approaches to analyze phenomena and address challenges.
