Biochemistry is an essential interdisciplinary field that investigates life at the molecular level, serving as the foundation for numerous life science disciplines such as cellular biology, microbiology, genetics, and medical research. Biotechnology applies biochemical principles to create innovative technologies, materials, and solutions that enhance and maintain global health and environmental sustainability. This program emphasizes health and pharmaceutical sciences, representing over half of Canada's biochemical research and biotechnological endeavors.
Students will begin with foundational courses in mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, and biochemistry before progressing to specialized topics like Disease Mechanisms, Pharmaceutical Molecular Design, Diagnostic and Therapeutic Methods, and Drug Development. These studies equip learners with both theoretical understanding and practical expertise for careers in research, industry, healthcare, or education.
The program fosters a research-focused atmosphere. Early undergraduate students can participate in voluntary or paid research positions, while third-year students may pursue academic research projects. Fourth-year students have the opportunity to undertake a comprehensive thesis project, gaining experience with cutting-edge laboratory equipment while exploring novel biochemical research areas.
Graduates will develop the technical and investigative abilities required by biotechnology firms, pharmaceutical corporations, chemical manufacturers, and scientific research facilities.
This curriculum also prepares students for advanced studies in chemistry, biochemistry, biotechnology, biophysics, medical fields, pharmaceutical sciences, dental medicine, or other health-related graduate programs.
Students must have the following:
International Baccalaureate Requirements
