OCAD University boasts a rich legacy of producing accomplished animators in both fine art and film, such as George Dunning, director of The Beatles' Yellow Submarine, and Richard Williams, animation director for Who Framed Roger Rabbit. Contemporary graduates include digital animator Trudy Elmore and rising VR creator Jawa El Khash. Shary Boyle, who showcased Canada at the Venice Biennale, has gained widespread acclaim for her captivating performances featuring handcrafted animated visuals.
This program encourages you to cultivate a unique artistic perspective while exploring animation's potential as a modern art medium. You'll blend conventional and digital techniques across 2D, 3D, stop-motion, digital compositing, and augmented/virtual reality platforms.
The Experimental Animation program offers extensive opportunities to explore elective courses in diverse art and design disciplines. It maintains expanding global academic partnerships and strong ties to Toronto's flourishing animation sector. Graduates have secured positions at renowned studios including Industrial Light & Magic, Yowza, Guru, Jam-Filled, Stoopid Buddy, The Stop Motion Department, StereoD, and Moment Factory. The program's dedicated faculty are internationally recognized contemporary artists and animators who actively exhibit their work worldwide.
Student must have a Secondary School Graduation equivalent to Grade 12 in Ontario with an overall average of B or 70% numeric equivalent in the final year.

Duolingo English Test (DET) - Minimum overall score of 110
CAEL (Canadian Academic English Language Assessment) - Minimum 70 overall with no band below 60
COPE (Certificate of Proficiency in English) and TOP (Test of Oral Proficiency)- Minimum 86 overall with at least 32 in Writing, at least 22 in Reading, and at least 22 in Listening. Minimum score of 6 in TOP
The recommended deadline to apply for all programs at OCAD University is February 1.
