Northern Lights College's Diploma in Practical Nursing adheres to the updated 2017 provincial curriculum. This program equips students with the necessary knowledge, abilities, decision-making skills, and professional demeanor to meet all competency requirements set by the British Columbia College of Nursing & Midwives (BCCNM). Offering an integrated educational approach, it fosters professional collaboration and cultural awareness while training future nurses to provide care for patients (and their families) across all life stages in diverse healthcare environments.
Aligned with BCCNM's 2021 Scope of Practice: Standards, Limits and Conditions, the program emphasizes foundational skills in health promotion, maintenance, and recovery, concentrating on patients with consistent and predictable health conditions.
Grade 12 graduation, or equivalent (General Educational Development, Adult Basic Education), or mature student status.
English: any one of the following with a minimum grade of (C+) 67%: English Studies 12, English 12, English Literature 12, English First Peoples 12, or equivalent. See below for applicants with English as an additional language.
Math: any one of the following with a minimum grade of (C) 60%: Foundations of Mathematics 11, Pre-Calculus 11, or equivalent. If the Math requirement is over 10 years old, NLC requires an 11.9 score on the numeracy sections of the CAAT (Number Operations and Problem Solving).
Biology: any one of the following with a minimum grade of(C) 60%: Anatomy and Physiology 12, Biology 12, or equivalent. The Biology requirement must have been completed within 10 years of application.
For applicants with English as an Additional Language, one of the following:
International English Language Testing System (IELTS) result with an overall score of 7.0 or higher and:
