Learners undergo instruction based on the provincial Hairstylist Apprenticeship program developed by SkilledTradesBC. Those who finish NLC Foundation's program spend most of their 990 training hours in a salon setting, earning credit for 300 hours of workplace training.

The curriculum covers fundamental techniques like cutting, styling, shampooing, and scalp care, along with chemical processes including coloring and perms. Participants also develop essential business and interpersonal skills for salon professionals.

Each student compiles a professional portfolio demonstrating their abilities and artistic vision, serving as a valuable tool for attracting future clients and employment opportunities.

Grade 10 English, OR Grade 11 Communications, OR Career and College Preparation ENGL 030 (Advanced/Grade 10) with C+ or higher;
• Grade 10 Math (Apprenticeship and Workplace Math), OR Career and College Preparation MATH 030 (Intermediate Developmental Math), MATH 031(Intermediate Trades Math) or MATH 035 (Intermediate Algebraic Math) with C+ or higher.
• Grade 10 Science, or Science 030, with C+ or higher
OR
ESTR 037 (Intermediate-Level Essential Skills for Trades) with 67% or higher,
OR
Complete the following sections of the Canadian Adult Achievement Test (CAAT):
• Reading Comprehension: 11.0 grade equivalent or higher
