This Practical Nursing program spans 2 years (4 semesters) and results in an Ontario college diploma. Northern College's program has earned Category 1 Program Approval from the College of Nurses of Ontario. The curriculum aligns with current diploma standards and national Entry-to-Practice Competencies, preparing graduates for the Regulatory Exam - Practical Nurse (REx-PN).
The program's philosophy centers on five core principles: patient focus, health, compassionate care, nursing practice, and the educational process that empowers individuals, families, and communities to achieve wellness. These interconnected concepts form the foundation of the curriculum. Graduates work collaboratively (independently or with healthcare teams) to develop, execute, and assess nursing care that enhances wellbeing, prevents illness, restores health, and provides comfort care.
