Each year in Alberta, more than 10,000 workers suffer workplace injuries, with some cases being severe or even fatal.
Consequently, businesses throughout the province are dedicating increased efforts and resources to enhance staff training, identify workplace hazards, and implement comprehensive safety policies and procedures.
NAIT's Occupational Health & Safety (OHSD) diploma program equips students for critical safety positions in industry, addressing the rising need for compliance with government safety standards.
This intensive 2-year program emphasizes practical skills and real-world applications, standing as Alberta's sole full-time OHS training program. Accredited by the Board of Canadian Registered Safety Professionals, our graduates fulfill the educational prerequisites for the Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) designation - Canada's most prestigious safety certification. Through five terms, students receive comprehensive classroom and laboratory instruction, complemented by hands-on learning experiences across diverse work environments.
The program delivers essential knowledge and technical competencies for creating, executing, and assessing corporate OHS initiatives that protect workers and maintain equipment safety. Our advanced coursework develops robust technical abilities while exploring multiple OHS specializations, including: hazard identification and control, risk assessment, ergonomic principles, industrial hygiene, construction safety protocols, emergency preparedness, accident analysis, WHMIS compliance, and regulatory standards
