The Combined Laboratory and X-Ray Technology program stands out by providing dual training in medical laboratory and radiology fields, primarily serving rural areas. After graduation, students become qualified to conduct standard medical lab tests, diagnostic x-rays, and electrocardiograms. The curriculum also covers information systems and technology used in medical labs and imaging departments.
This full-time, two-year program at NAIT equips students with the necessary skills to become certified CLXT professionals.
The first year, starting each September, involves 38 weeks of classroom instruction and practical labs meeting industry requirements. This includes two 15-week terms and an 8-week intersession at NAIT's Main Campus.
Following the first year, students transition to rural clinical placements for 40 weeks of Work Integrated Learning (WIL). Here, they'll work with experienced technologists, applying their knowledge while enhancing critical thinking and professional skills in patient care. Clinical rotations involve varied shifts, including evenings, nights, and weekends. Technologists may work solo or collaboratively with healthcare teams, requiring both independence and teamwork abilities essential for this dual-role profession.
