NAIT's Building Environmental Systems Technology program provides comprehensive training in HVAC-R (heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration) engineering principles and their application in building systems. Students will learn to evaluate, design, install, and commission HVAC-R controls and equipment. The curriculum emphasizes utilizing cutting-edge industry software for mechanical system design, along with building automation system analysis, commissioning, and troubleshooting.
This program offers apprenticeship pathways, granting graduates credit toward the 3rd period of technical training in the Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Mechanic (RACM) apprenticeship. Full 3rd period recognition is awarded after successfully completing the trade qualifications exam and required work hours. The coursework covers HVAC-R integration theory, advanced refrigeration systems, mechanical system design and operation, control integration, commercial refrigeration applications, CAD-based HVAC system design, mechanical estimating, contract/project management, and energy efficiency strategies.
