Environmental technicians play a vital role in safeguarding our ecosystems by ensuring their protection and sustainability. This two-year diploma equips students with the technical expertise required for careers in environmental fields. The curriculum delivers practical competencies to professionally address diverse topics such as: ecosystem management and its related challenges/opportunities, environmental impact evaluations; handling of hazardous and non-hazardous materials; waste minimization and recycling approaches; prevention and monitoring of air, soil, and water contamination; wildlife observation, soil analysis and ecosystem classification, regulatory compliance reviews; plus investigation and restoration of polluted sites.
The comprehensive training combines theoretical knowledge with practical applications, providing graduates with solid foundations in physical and life sciences encompassing biology, ecology, physics, and statistical analysis.
Students receive extensive hands-on experience through both lab work and field studies, including an immersive field school during the program's third term.
Academic requirements
Language Arts – this requirement can be met with any of the following, or an equivalent course:
50% in English Language Arts 30-1
60% in English Language Arts 30-2
50% in ESLG 1860
60% in ESLG 1898
Mathematics – this requirement can be met with the following, or an equivalent course:
50% in Mathematics 30-2
Biology – this requirement can be met with the following, or an equivalent course:
50% in Biology 30
Applicants with degrees
Applicants who have previously completed a Bachelor of Science, Technology, or Engineering degree will be considered to have met the academic admission requirements as long as the English Language Arts requirement is met.
