Nipissing University's Master of Environmental Science (MESc) and Master of Environmental Studies (MES) programs adopt a distinctive interdisciplinary framework, combining perspectives and techniques from humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences to examine and tackle environmental challenges. These programs include coursework along with either a Major Research Paper (one-year option) or a Thesis (two-year option). The Thesis track is additionally available as a flexible four-year program.
To earn either the Master of Environmental Science or Master of Environmental Studies degree, students must complete 24 credits, with the flexibility to select the program format that aligns with their professional aspirations.

Qualification Requirements

Applicants must hold a four-year undergraduate degree in any discipline from an accredited University and at least a 75% average on the last ten full (20 semester) courses completed at the time of application, or equivalent qualifications to be considered for admission. Applicants are also required to submit a Statement of Academic Intent which explains how the MES/MESc program relates to previous academic studies. All applicants are required to provide at least two letters of recommendation from professors or other appropriate professionals who can speak to their level of preparation and readiness for graduate studies. At least two of the references must be from someone qualified to address the academic ability and competence of the applicant to undertake graduate studies. Reference letters cannot be completed by anyone who is personally related to the applicant. All applicants are required to either write a statement of approximately 500 words explaining the value of undertaking a master’s degree for their specific circumstances or a statement about their research interests Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) 93 with a minimum score of 20 in reading and listening and a minimum score of 22 in writing and speaking. International English Language Testing Service (IELTS) with a minimum overall score of 6.5 with no band less than 6.5.
