The Master of Arts in History program includes coursework, a Major Research Paper, and participation in the yearly Graduate Student Conference to present findings. Students can choose between a one-year intensive track (Fall, Winter, and Spring/Summer terms) or a three-year flexible schedule (nine consecutive terms). The curriculum focuses on key historical disciplines: International, Gender, Canadian, European, and Environmental studies. Our distinguished faculty specialize in diverse areas like environmental history, genocide studies, indigenous research, political and diplomatic history, as well as military and intelligence history.‚Äã The program requires coursework and a Major Research Paper (MRP), typically finished within twelve months. Through the MRP, students conduct original research while exploring significant historiographical debates in their field. This MA program prepares graduates for doctoral studies while honing research and writing skills applicable to various academic and professional paths. A highlight is the spring Graduate Student Conference, where participants share their MRP proposals with peers and scholars.
Canadian history courses examine contemporary themes across different eras, from colonial periods to modern times, covering topics like natural resource policies, environmental and food systems, family structures, oral traditions, and processes of colonization and decolonization.
