The BPHE program offers students a well-rounded curriculum featuring classroom instruction, laboratory work, seminars, physical training, research projects, independent study, and community internships. The learning experience is enriched through both on-campus and off-campus program components. Distinctive features of Nipissing's BPHE program include: Hands-on Physical Education courses - mandatory applied physical activity classes each semester covering sports like soccer, volleyball, basketball, hockey, swimming, gymnastics, canoeing, racquet sports, dance, yoga, baseball, golf, track & field, rugby, martial arts, orienteering, cross-country skiing, curling, alpine skiing, wilderness canoe trips, winter survival skills, and mountain biking Community Leadership Internship - during third and fourth years, students work with local health and physical activity organizations (such as schools, medical facilities, athletic teams, and rehab centers) to cultivate leadership skills and establish professional connections within the community. The program offers customizable course options allowing students to specialize in Physical and Health Education pedagogy (for teaching/coaching careers) or focus on health and exercise science (for kinesiology and related health professions).
Concurrent Education students who successfully finish their Nipissing Honours degree, including required Concurrent Education courses, by April's end will progress into the Bachelor of Education's professional years (Years 5 and 6). All undergraduate degree requirements and teachable subject prerequisites must be completed by May 1 of the transition year into BEd Year 5.
