This program equips you with versatile skills in analytical reasoning, investigation, composition, debate, interpretation, and effective communication.

As a unique offering among Canadian institutions, the GESJ program trains you to examine power dynamics critically—exploring who holds influence globally, the reasons behind it, and strategies for challenging and transforming power structures to advance social equity. The curriculum spans multiple disciplines, integrating perspectives from Social Welfare and Social Development, Religions and Cultures, Political Science, and Philosophy. It caters to students passionate about examining popular culture critically; legal approaches to combating inequality; global human rights issues; international conflict resolution; transnational activism; colonial histories; feminist thought; postmodern theory; justice frameworks; and the interplay of race, class, ability, and gender identities.

From daily social media engagement to evening streaming habits, media profoundly shapes our self-perception, social connections, and worldview. Culture and Criticism courses meticulously dissect media portrayals of gender, race, class, and sexuality, revealing how they both mirror and amplify societal disparities and changes.
