The Child and Family Studies (CHFS) program at Nipissing University's School of Human and Social Development offers a distinctive curriculum centered on two key themes:
Human Development and Learning, along with Child and Family Well-Being: Addressing Issues, Services, and Social Justice. Students can opt for a Major, Specialization, or Honours Specialization.
If you're aiming for a career in developmental services, health/mental health, child welfare, education, justice, government, or private sector roles with a passion for social justice and creating meaningful impact, this program is ideal. You also have the option to earn one of our two Applied Certificates - either in Applied Behavior Analysis or Program Evaluation and Applied Research (PEAR) - while developing skills to enhance systems and services for individuals across all ages in the social and human services field.

Qualification Requirements

Official transcripts from all institutions (domestic or international) previously or presently attended, secondary schools, colleges and universities (Domestic and international applicants who have attended postsecondary institutions outside of North America must have their transcripts assessed. International Baccalaureate (IB) diploma with at least six subjects, including three at a higher level, with a minimum final grade of 24, will be considered for admission. Students who successfully complete the International Baccalaureate (IB) diploma with a score of 24 or higher are eligible to receive up to 30 transfer credits, equivalent to one year of full-time study. Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL): Applicants to all programs except Nursing require a minimum score of 83 (iBT) with a minimum score of 20 in reading, listening and writing, and a minimum score of 22 in speaking. International English Language Test Service (IELTS) : Applicants to all programs except Nursing require a minimum overall band score of 6.5 with a minimum 6 in reading, listening, speaking and writing. Pearson Test of English (PTE) Academic: Applicants to all programs except Nursing require a minimum overall score of 58 with a minimum score of 56 in speaking, writing, reading and listening. NURSING – TOEFL: Applicants to Nursing require a minimum score of 93 with a minimum score of 20 in reading and listening and a minimum score of 22 in writing and speaking IELTS: Applicants to Nursing require a minimum overall band score of 7 with a minimum 6.5 in reading, listening, speaking and writing
