The Marine Institute at Memorial University provides three distinct degree programs in Maritime Studies. The Master of Science in Maritime Studies (Safety: The Human Element) is available for both full-time and part-time students, emphasizing research. Designed for individuals passionate about human factors, safety, and survival in high-risk environments, this program equips students to perform publishable research on human elements within maritime contexts.
The Master of Science in Maritime Studies (Public Safety) is another research-intensive option for full- or part-time students. Tailored for those dedicated to advancing public safety, it prepares learners to conduct high-quality research on public safety topics, including occupational training and wellness for safety professionals.
The Doctor of Philosophy in Maritime Studies accommodates both full-time and part-time candidates. This program targets individuals pursuing groundbreaking research in human factors, safety, training, and survival within maritime and public safety domains. Graduates will develop globally relevant expertise in research methodology, data analysis, and scientific communication. Research may focus on human factors affecting maritime safety or public safety workforce training and well-being.
MSc Structure – The Master's program combines coursework with a thesis requirement and can be finished in two years of full-time study.
