The Building Engineering master's program enables students focusing on building performance, heritage preservation, and fire safety engineering to deepen their expertise in building systems while developing specialized competencies to meet growing industry needs across both private and public sectors.
Carleton's building engineering alumni have secured prominent roles with leading firms as building performance analysts, energy simulation experts, sustainable design consultants, heritage structure rehabilitation specialists, computational modeling professionals, and fire protection engineers. Numerous graduates also serve in public sector roles, including positions with federal agencies like the National Research Council, Natural Resources Canada, and Public Services and Procurement Canada, as well as municipal organizations (such as Ottawa's city government) and utility providers (including Hydro Ottawa).

Qualification Requirements

The normal requirement for admission to the M.A.Sc. and M.Eng. in Building Engineering is a bachelor's degree in an engineering or related program, with at least a B+ average. Applicants to the M.A.Sc. are required to include a research proposal statement.

IELTS - Overall 6.5 (minimum 6.0 in each band).
TOEFL iBT - 86 (20 in reading and listening, 22 in speaking and writing)
TOEFL PBT - overall score of 580.
