The Department of Linguistics fosters close connections between academic instruction and scholarly investigation, prioritizing evidence-based, theoretically grounded exploration of indigenous languages, linguistic diversity and evolution, and language learning. Our advanced degree curricula establish a robust grounding in fundamental theoretical domains (phonology, syntax, morphology, etc.) and expand upon this base. Faculty provide research guidance and specialization in areas including first and second language learning, speech pathology, and both acoustic and articulatory phonetics, incorporating both theoretical and experimental approaches.
