Canada's pioneering Master of Applied Literary Arts program uniquely blends academic rigor with hands-on professional training through a flexible, experience-driven approach.
This MALA degree equips graduates for diverse careers in the arts sector across the province and nationwide. Alumni will enhance the creative economy by strengthening local arts, cultural, and tourism industries, revitalizing rural areas, preserving collective heritage, promoting inclusivity, and fostering innovative cultural expressions.
Through partnerships with regional communities, organizations, and cultural leaders, students gain off-campus experience working alongside professional artists. This immersive, community-focused learning model prioritizes practical, real-world opportunities.
The MALA program provides three pathways: internships, research papers, or theses, with completion times ranging from one to two years. The research paper track combines coursework, an internship, and a substantial research project, achievable in one year full-time or two years part-time. The thesis option includes courses, an internship, and a thesis, requiring two years of full-time study.
