The Department of Political Science at Memorial University provides graduate-level education through specialized courses, a graduate diploma program, and MA supervision across key disciplinary areas: Global Politics, Comparative Politics, Canadian Politics, Public Policy, and Political Theory.

Faculty research spans diverse topics including electoral processes and voter behavior; environmental policy and climate governance; migration and ethnic conflicts; Indigenous governance systems; democratic participation models; international institutions; human rights issues; diplomatic relations; gender in politics; policy implementation; financial regulation politics; local and provincial governance; activism and social movements; historical international relations theory; democratic philosophy; and identity, legal, and justice theories.

Our Graduate Diploma in Political Science allows students to earn advanced academic qualifications without undertaking a complete master's degree. This program enables participants to expand their political knowledge and can serve professional advancement purposes (such as for government employees, private sector professionals engaged with policy matters, or NGO/voluntary sector workers). Coursework is available across all primary political science subfields (Canadian Politics, Public Policy, Political Theory, Global Politics, Comparative Politics).

Graduate diploma Bachelor of Arts in Political Science or a cognate field minimum second class or a bachelors degree in any field minimum second class along with applicable experience demonstrating the applicants ability to satisfy the requirements of a Political Science course
