Since its establishment in 1963, Memorial University's School of Social Work has expanded to become the largest program east of Montreal, offering MSW and PhD degrees through a globally respected faculty. The PhD in Social Work stands as Atlantic Canada's sole program of its kind. Committed to advancing social justice, the School delivers social work education, engages in scholarly research, shares knowledge, and influences public policy and practice. These efforts support the goals and requirements of both local and international communities we partner with. The School significantly contributes to training professionals for social work practice in Newfoundland and Labrador, throughout Canada, and around the world.

PhD – Our Social Work doctoral program offers regionally appropriate, accessible, and specialized advanced education with a strong research foundation. It cultivates critical analysis skills and encourages groundbreaking academic contributions. Concentrating on advanced practice and education in social work, the program maintains a dedication to serving communities and upholding social justice.
