The Department of Physics and Physical Oceanography at Memorial University of Newfoundland maintains a robust graduate program supported by a long-standing research heritage. Since Memorial University launched its graduate studies in 1960, the Department has provided MSc programs, introducing its first PhD program in 1969. Today, internationally experienced and recognized faculty members guide our students. Our research initiatives benefit from substantial funding from NSERC, CFI, and other institutions, while our cutting-edge laboratories and computing resources provide students with exceptional research possibilities.

PhD – Students can pursue a PhD in either Physics or Physical Oceanography. This program requires three courses, a comprehensive examination, and a thesis, typically completed within four years of full-time enrollment.
