The Department of Physics and Physical Oceanography at Memorial University of Newfoundland boasts a renowned graduate program supported by decades of research excellence. Since Memorial's graduate studies began in 1960, the Department has provided MSc programs, expanding to PhD offerings in 1969. Today, our internationally recognized faculty guide students with global expertise and collaborations. Our well-funded research initiatives receive support from NSERC, CFI, and other institutions, featuring state-of-the-art laboratories and computing resources for cutting-edge research.
PhD – Students can pursue doctoral studies in either Physics or Physical Oceanography. This rigorous program requires three courses, a comprehensive examination, and a dissertation, typically completed within four years of full-time enrollment.
