The Department of Ocean Sciences boasts a vibrant academic community with more than 60 graduate students and a distinguished faculty comprising 13 full-time professors, 2 Emeritus members, 1 Honorary professor, and 2 cross-appointed instructors. Around 12 external researchers, primarily from government agencies specializing in agriculture, fisheries, forestry, and wildlife, serve as adjunct faculty, actively participating in graduate education through co-supervision and committee roles. A key departmental objective is delivering exceptional graduate education and training. Our students pursue diverse research fields such as physiology, biochemistry, molecular biology, oceanography (both biological and chemical), ecology (behavioral and population studies), as well as aquaculture and fisheries.
Doctoral Program – The PhD curriculum includes coursework, comprehensive examinations, and dissertation research, typically completed within four years of full-time enrollment.

Applicants shall have completed Master’s degree in an appropriate area of study.
The minimum English proficiency test scores are as follows:
TOEFL: An aggregate score of 80 (92 for graduate programs with higher English proficiency requirements).
IELTS Academic: An aggregate score of 6.5 (7 for graduate programs with higher English proficiency requirements).
Duolingo English Test: An aggregate score of 115 (125 for graduate programs with higher English proficiency requirements).
CAEL - A score between 50 and 60 in each of four bands, with at least 2 band scores of 60.
MET: A score of 59%.
PTE Academic - Minimum scores of 58 in each of reading, writing, listening, and speaking
