The Division of BioMedical Sciences (BMS) within the Faculty of Medicine oversees the Immunology & Infectious Diseases (IID) graduate program, providing options for students to earn either a Master of Science (MSc) or Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree. Students join an active research environment, gaining IID training through laboratory work, academic courses, seminar participation, and the yearly BioMedicine research symposium, plus additional professional growth opportunities across campus. The Faculty of Medicine facilitates a guest speaker series, teaching assistant positions, internal funding awards, administrative assistance, and a specialized Office of Research & Graduate Studies for medical graduate students. The Health Sciences Library is conveniently situated in the Health Sciences Centre, next to the Faculty of Medicine.
PhD – This thesis-driven PhD program typically spans four years of full-time enrollment. Qualified applicants who exceed academic benchmarks and maintain full-time status in the Faculty of Medicine receive guaranteed funding for four years. Coursework is usually finished within the initial 1-2 years, with the remaining time focused on thesis research. All PhD candidates at Memorial University must complete comprehensive examinations by their seventh semester.
