Pure mathematics explores fundamental mathematical disciplines including abstract algebra, number theory, geometry, and real and complex analysis. This field serves as an excellent foundation for diverse academic pursuits by developing strong logical reasoning skills.
Our department hires undergraduate students for positions in the Math Help Center and as assignment graders. Selected students may secure summer research positions supported by the National Science and Engineering Research Council.
Students can pursue major or honors degree programs resulting in either a Bachelor of Arts (BA) or Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in pure mathematics. We also provide combined programs in:
computer science and pure mathematics (B.Sc. major and honors)
economics and pure mathematics (B.Sc. major)
pure mathematics and statistics (B.Sc. honors)
