The program offers a thesis-based MSc with three specialization options: Medical Physics, Radiation Biology, and Medical Radiation Sciences. Students collaborate with faculty on research projects utilizing McMaster's radiation facilities or partner hospitals

Research Focus Areas
Brachytherapy isotopes, surface dose measurement, imaging of radiation patterns, neutron microdosimetry;
Nuclear and atomic analysis techniques for both trace elements and major bodily components;
Creation of innovative radiopharmaceuticals and diagnostic/therapeutic applications of radioisotopes;
Non-invasive imaging techniques for bone and joint structure analysis;
MRI technology applications;
DNA damage and repair mechanisms in cancer development;
Adaptive responses, genomic instability, and bystander effects in radiation risk evaluation for humans and ecosystems;
Light and laser applications in tissue for photodynamic treatments and tissue analysis;
Muscle function studies and repair/regeneration processes;
Radiation exposure assessment methods;
Cutting-edge optimization techniques for IMRT and gel dosimetry.

Qualification Requirements

The minimum requirement for admission to the M.Sc. programs in Health and Radiation Physics and Radiation Sciences – Medical Physics is an Honours B.Sc. degree in Physics or Engineering Physics or a related discipline, with at least a B+ average in the final year. Those with an Honours B.Sc. in other science disciplines will be considered for admission if they have received a good grounding in physics. The minimum requirement for admission to the M.Sc. program in Radiation Sciences – Radiation Biology is an Honours B.Sc. in Biology or Life Sciences or a related discipline, with at least a B+ average in the final year. Applicants who are accepted typically have an average of A- or higher.
