Our institution provides globally accredited, top-tier programs that prepare graduates for careers in Medical Physics, Health Physics, and Radiation Biology. Alumni from our programs serve in cancer treatment centers nationwide, contribute to nuclear power plant operations, provide analytical expertise and policy guidance for the Canadian government, engage in international laboratory research, and hold academic appointments throughout North America. The Radiation Sciences Ph.D. program offers two research-focused pathways: one emphasizing physics (Medical Physics) and another concentrating on life sciences (Radiation Biology).
Students can choose between Medical Physics (with both CAMPEP-accredited and non-accredited options) or Radiation Biology specializations.
For the Ph.D. in Radiation Sciences, both Medical Physics and Radiation Biology tracks require completion of at least one 700-level course beyond the M.Sc. requirements. Medical Physics candidates lacking Medical Physics 6R03 and 775 must complete these plus two additional 700-level half-courses. Radiation Biology students missing Medical Physics 6B03 must take this course along with two 700-level half-courses. All Ph.D. candidates must successfully pass a Comprehensive Examination covering Radiation Sciences topics beyond their specific research focus. The program culminates with an original research thesis and its defense during a final oral examination.
