McMaster University's School of Labour Studies has introduced its latest offering - a PhD in Labour Studies, standing as North America's sole program of its kind. This doctoral initiative provides an in-depth examination of work and labor issues through both contemporary and historical lenses. Designed to cultivate future academic leaders, the program prepares graduates for influential roles in universities, community organizations, policy development, and worker advocacy groups. With its intimate interdisciplinary approach, participants receive personalized guidance from distinguished faculty while leveraging their professors' extensive ties to labor unions and community networks.
Upon completion, doctoral candidates will be qualified for university teaching positions along with research-oriented, executive, and leadership roles across various sectors. These include public institutions, private enterprises, and non-profit entities dedicated to workplace equity and social justice, such as labor unions, policy research centers, and analytical organizations.
Master’s degree or equivalent in any discipline with a minimum A- average grade from an accredited university.
