The Medical Radiation Sciences (MRSc) program is a collaborative effort between Mohawk College and McMaster University. Established in September 2004, this initiative emerged from conversations between McMaster's Faculty of Science and Mohawk's Medical Imaging department. Both institutions are recognized as pioneers in Ontario's health sciences education, with a proven track record of successful partnerships and educational advancements.
Graduates of the MRSc program become healthcare specialists utilizing various radiation technologies for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes, entering one of healthcare's most rapidly expanding sectors. Participants earn dual qualifications: an Ontario College Advanced Diploma in Medical Radiation Sciences from Mohawk alongside McMaster's Bachelor of Medical Radiation Sciences degree. This innovative approach allows students to obtain both credentials concurrently.
The program's framework ensures a comprehensive grounding in fundamental sciences while blending clinical training with academic studies across specialized fields. These components correspond with professional competency standards, fostering abilities that equip graduates for continuous independent learning and vital roles within healthcare teams.
Ultrasonography: Features specialized instruction in ultrasound physics, equipment operation, human anatomy and pathology, scanning techniques for abdominal, obstetric, pelvic, musculoskeletal and vascular applications, along with patient care protocols and pediatric imaging.
Entry requirements may vary from country to country. Students are required to complete Grade 12 high school diploma equivalent to Canadian qualification.
