McMaster University's Greek & Roman Studies programs offer students diverse course options spanning history, archaeology, philology, and beyond.
The undergraduate curriculum mandates coursework in history, archaeology, and classical languages (Latin and/or Greek) to establish a strong academic base for advanced studies.
Program participants can select courses from these specialized areas:
Ancient History and Society
Ancient Philosophy
Classical Archaeology and Art History
Classical Literature in Translation
Greek Language and Literature
Latin Language and Literature
After completing 60 units in an Honours Program, students may substitute some Level III coursework with approved international study programs, pending departmental and Associate Dean approval.
Participants can earn up to 6 units through authorized archaeological fieldwork. Additional information is available through the Greek & Roman Studies Department.
Prospective graduate students should note that most universities require undergraduate Greek and Latin coursework for admission. Early enrollment in these language courses is highly recommended. Thesis coursework (GKROMST 4T03 AB) during final studies is also strongly advised for those pursuing graduate studies in this field.
