The Police Foundations program is designed for those aiming to pursue careers in policing, law enforcement, or justice-related fields. The first year establishes a comprehensive theoretical base covering human relations, mental health, essential interpersonal and communication skills, teamwork, and an introduction to the criminal justice system. In the second year, the curriculum shifts toward specialized law enforcement topics, including investigations, police authority, and community policing. Participants also earn certifications in Non-violent Crisis Intervention from the Crisis Prevention Institute and Incident Management System (IMS 100) through Emergency Management Ontario. This program equips students with a balanced education, serving as both preparation for law enforcement careers and a stepping stone for further studies in related disciplines. The criminal justice lab enables students to apply classroom knowledge in practical, real-world scenarios, fostering hands-on learning. Additionally, involvement in Lambton College's student-led Safe Walk initiative provides valuable volunteer hours and field experience. The faculty comprises professionals from diverse backgrounds, including policing, border security, and criminal justice. Interdisciplinary courses create collaborative learning environments where students from various first-responder programs train together in both classroom and simulated settings. With small class sizes and immersive learning opportunities, the program delivers a high-quality educational experience.
