Prepare for an exciting career through our nationally accredited firefighter training program.
This program prepares you for frontline roles in municipal or industrial firefighting. Our curriculum surpasses the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 1001 standards and is endorsed by the Canadian Armed Forces, allowing you to apply some credits toward military service.
Gain practical experience at Canada's most advanced training facility. Discover the Emergency Training Centre (ETC), explore our [field props], or take a virtual ETC tour.
In addition to structural firefighting, you'll develop hands-on expertise in:hazardous materials response,vehicle rescue operations,wildfire suppression.
The program also includes mental health preparedness and career preparation workshops.
A blended learning option is available, combining online theory with a 4-week practical session at ETC.
Participants qualify to take International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC) and Pro Board certification exams, fulfilling prerequisites for additional NFPA professional training.

Qualification Requirements

Minimum age 18 by program start date High school diploma with a minimum of: 50% in English 30-1 or English 30-2 50% in Math 20-3 50% in one of any grade 11 science Proof of English language proficiency. Proof of valid unrestricted Alberta Class 5 or equivalent driver's licence. Proof of air brake endorsement. Must be reflected on your driver's licence. A temporary or interim licence is acceptable. Proof of medical clearance. The medical release form (PDF) must be completed within 1 year of the program start date. You can take this year in Canada including the grade 12 year. This can be a combination of secondary and post-secondary education. You can take this in another country, but English must be the official language of instruction. Lakeland College maintains a list of countries that satisfy English proficiency. a grade of 60% in English Language Arts 30-1 (final blended grade including diploma or provincial exam mark) or Canadian equivalent a grade of 65% in English Language Arts 30-2 (final blended grade including diploma or provincial exam mark) or Canadian equivalent a grade of B or better in an O-level, GCSE, or IGCSE English Language or Literature course a grade of B+ or better in 6 credit transferable university-level English Language and Literature course completed at a recognized English language institution Successfully complete an English language program, with a minimum score at one of our approved partner schools. Successfully achieve an acceptable score within the past two years on an English language evaluation test. Tests must have been taken within two years of the start date of the program. International English Language Testing System (IELTS) - IELTS (International English Language Testing System) - minimum score of 6.0 overall with at least 6.0 on each band score on the Academic test for all programs. There is no pass or fail, instead you are rated on a 9-band scale for listening, reading, writing and speaking. A Band 6 rating is called a competent user. Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) - You need a minimum 78 score on the internet-based test (iBT) exam and a minimum score of 19 in each of the four tested areas. Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE-A) - Lakeland College requires a PTE Academic minimum score of 53 with no communication skill score lower than 50. Duolingo - Our standard acceptance score is 100 overall with no sub-score below 95.
