The Master of Science in Geology program typically focuses on Petrochemistry and Tectonophysics. Petrochemistry encompasses: Field and laboratory research on ore deposits, igneous, metamorphic, and consolidated sedimentary rocks. Tectonophysics covers: Field and laboratory investigations in structural geology, rock magnetism, and basin studies. Our department specializes in petrochemistry and tectonophysics, with research projects spanning: petrology, mineralogy, geochemistry, structural geology, strain analysis, geological mapping, tectonics, sedimentation, economic geology, paleomagnetism, and experimental rock deformation and strength analysis. Approximately 30% of our MSc graduates continue to PhD programs, with the majority having their work published in peer-reviewed journals. Research expeditions have been conducted across Canada, including the Arctic, as well as internationally, such as in Cyprus.
Lakehead University's Geology Department provides both Bachelor's and Master's programs in geology and environmental science. Our curriculum emphasizes practical geological training, taking advantage of our location in the Canadian Shield region.
