The Faculty of Education at Lakehead University provides a Master of Education program tailored to align with your professional aspirations and academic interests. Our MEd program delivers a distinctive educational experience that engages with contemporary developments in both teaching practices and scholarly research. The program features two primary concentrations: Educational Studies and Education for Change.
The Education for Change pathway offers a progressive approach to graduate studies, enabling you to earn your Master's degree with specialized options in Environmental and Sustainability Education (ESE), Indigenous Education (IE), or Social Justice Education (SJE). These specializations can also be paired with Gender and Women's Studies.
Through our Educational Studies concentration, you can obtain your Master's degree while exploring pedagogical research, theoretical frameworks, and practical applications across diverse educational settings, with additional specialization options in Gerontology or Gender and Women's Studies. Our MEd program adapts to working professionals' schedules, offering Thesis, Portfolio, or Course completion paths for both concentrations. These flexible programs support various academic interests and are available for both full-time and part-time students. The faculty houses two Canada Research Chairs (focusing on Environmental Education and Arts Integrated Research), the Centre for Place and Sustainability Studies, the Multi-Data Convergence Laboratory, and publishes the Canadian Journal of Environmental Education.
Our Gerontology Program works closely with the Faculty of Education to deliver a cross-disciplinary learning experience. Students benefit from diverse academic resources and collaborative opportunities across related fields. The program examines Gerontology research and theory, with applicable thesis or portfolio projects completed through the partner department while maintaining a gerontological emphasis.
