The Health Sciences PhD program is a rigorous, research-focused curriculum that cultivates advanced research capabilities, with special attention to communities facing disproportionate health challenges (including elderly and Indigenous groups). This premier graduate program fosters collaborative research and academic pursuits among students, faculty, and staff, encouraging creative and groundbreaking initiatives.

Qualification Requirements

Applicants for admission must be graduates of a recognized university and show evidence of scholarly achievement. Except where otherwise stated in the Admission Requirements of a particular program, students must have a Masters degree or its equivalent with an academic average as specified by the academic unit. An applicant holding a degree other than one in the discipline area to which admission is sought will be considered on the basis of Master's courses taken and academic standing.
The prerequisite for admission into the PhD program will normally be a Master's level degree in a health-related discipline (normally with thesis, but note that students from course-based master's programs may be admitted if they demonstrate excellence through other means such as publications, community service, scholarships, etc.). Normally, the minimum average for acceptance into the program is 80% in a Master's program.

Writing Sample - Applicants will submit one piece of evidence of scholarship to demonstrate the quality of their writing. This can include a major paper submitted for a graduate-level course or a sole authored published paper.
